On Friday, Issaquah High pulled off its second earth-shattering upset of the year, defeating Bellevue High's nationally-ranked football team.
What makes this such a big upset? Check out Bellevue's resume:
--Four-time defending state champions
--Winners of 30 consecutive games
--Ranked 10th in the country by USA Today
--Ranked 1st in the state by the Seattle Times
This isn't the first time Issaquah's shocked the prep sports world. Earlier this year, they knocked Seattle Prep out of the basketball postseason before Prep even reached the state tournament. That Prep team had Martell Webster, who will begin his NBA career this week after being the sixth overall pick in the draft, and Spencer Hawes, who is one of the nation's top prep recruits.
Bellevue can still defend their state title. But their dreams of winning the "mythical national championship," as decided by the voters of the USA Today poll, are over.
Issaquah must win at least their last regular season game even to qualify for a playoff. However, as the picture collage on the team web site indicates, this victory is one to be savored.
