Good God Ya'll

mini-arlington.jpgA few weeks ago the Post Intelligencer published a list of recent U.S. military casualties with links to Washington state that we wrote about but ended up not posting because it seemed like it would have been too much of a downer amongst all the wise-cracky 'news of the weird' and happy-go-lucky events listings we had up at the time. However, now that U.S. casualties have climbed up to the 2000 mark we think it should be acknowledged.

We intended at that time to reproduce the P-I's list in its entirety, but then we scrolled. And scrolled. And scrolled. And realized that maybe a link would suffice in this instance. The vast majority of the casualties listed come out of Fort Lewis whose website currently features a lovely autumn-themed Fort Clatsop/Lewis and Clark poster celebrating the bicentennial of something or other.

It is, of course, high time for a vigil. MoveOn.org has a list up of about 20 planned vigils for tonight within 20 miles of Seattlest's 98105 zip code, but the one that seems to be gaining the most traction is the Green Lake "2000 Too Many Candlelight Vigil."

A silent candlelight vigil will be held at 6:00pm on the South shore of Green Lake at N. 64th St. ON THE DAY AFTER the U.S. Government announces the 2000th fatality in Iraq. Some candles will be available but you are encouraged to bring your own! The Buddhist Peace Fellowship will host a silent meditation area.
