Pound Pup of the Week: Meet Dugan

October is Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, and in support of such a noble cause, Seattlest is pleased to present you with our Pound Pup of the Week...along with our pet-ad translator.

Sometimes you have to look a little further afield to find love: today we look to Tacoma, where three-month-old Dugan currently awaits his forever home.

Dugan is a German shepherd/Doberman mix and cute as a button. He's in foster care, which is a really fantastic thing to hear about a shelter dog. It means that the dog is currently living in someone's house, so not only are you getting a dog that's being socialized, you're also getting a more realistic report of the dog's skills (or lack thereof).

In Dugan's case, he's learned some basic commands, gone to the dog park, and ridden in the car. Hurrah! With a stray in a cage at the shelter, you won't necessarily know whether or not it can do any of those things.

Alas, Dugan "is learning potty training," which means some puddles in your future.

Rescuing a shelter dog is a good thing--and in this case, you'd also be rescuing a dog from polka-dot t-shirts.

If you're interested in adopting a dog (or cat, or whatever sort of petlike animal), try our local animal shelters: the Seattle Animal Shelter on 15th Ave NW (near Utilikilts) or the King County Humane Society (right off 90 in Bellevue). You can also pre-shop at Petfinder, though we are not responsible for obsessive use of this site.
