The news is as unwelcome as a 7-10 split: the owners of Greenwood's Leilani Lanes have sold to a developer who plans to raze the place and build apartments.
Leilani holds a special place in our heart for the many seasons we've bowled in leagues there. If you haven't been, you have until March when the place comes down. Get there soon to experience the tiki bar/Vegas lounge, the pull tabs, the Dance Dance Revolution, the old lockers, the photo booth, the oily balls, the karaoke nights. Leilani will be missed.
Turns out the people who sold Leilani also own Sunset Bowl in Ballard, but they've vowed to hold onto it. This is good news for fans of unsanitized, Lebowski-esque bowling. Bad news if they break their word.
Meanwhile, a Garage-esque bowling palace is set to open in Tukwila in November. ACME looks to make cheddar from corporate events--they'll have a separate 10-lane section for such things. Now, a corporation that takes you bowling sounds good...but going bowling next to the office party sounds not-so-good.
We'll have to make do with Sunset and West Seattle Bowl, unless you, dear reader, can point us elsewhere.
