Sweet Loooou in the Boooooth

FOX Sports hired ex-Mariner manager Lou Piniella for a week. He'll join Joe Buck and Tim McCarver in the broadcast booth for the American League Championship Series, presumably to contribute some heterosexuality.

We enjoyed listening to Lou's familiar, husky, clipped voice last night during Game One. He dispensed few of the lame bromides that characterized his post-game interviews while with the M's, instead focusing on his knowledge of the players on both teams.

Piniella's only previous broadcasting job was with the Yankees in 1989.
