Unbearable Cuteness in the Seattle Times

The roofline of today's Times almost knocked us flat this morning: between the news that the Angels knocked the Yankees out of the playoffs and the fake sea serpent in Lake Union was this:

Doggie mom adopts baby squirrel
It nursed with other pups

An animal-lover named Debbie Cantlon, who lives in View Ridge, took in a newborn squirrel, found at the bottom of a tree in Renton with its dead parent nearby. Mademoiselle Giselle, Cantlon's pregnant Papillon, dragged the little doodle's cage towards her doggie bed more than once before Cantlon figured she'd see what happened when the two interacted. Lo and behold, the squirrel, newly named Finnegan, now nurses alongside Papillon's newborns. Stinkin cute.

Most dogs we know would have dragged Finnegan's cage over in order to enjoy a midday snack.

Alas, we can't reprint the photos here, but we suggest you check out the story itself.

So what else is new with the local establishment print media?

Send this to every one and any one you possibly can to help spread the word about China's shocking cat and dog fur trade. All of J. Crew's fur is imported from china which means shopping there potentially supports the hideously cruel dog and cat fur industry.

Please caution Debbie Cantlon about the advisability of letting Finnegan the squirrel loose into the wild. The squirrel hasn't properly imprinted that dogs/coyotes are "enemies" and would probably be promptly eaten. The story is great, just made me sad to think about the probably outcome of release.

I am writing just to agree with Linda Dolman. Someone has to get in touch with Debbie and tell her not to even think of releasing that squirrel into the wild. She should at least take it to an animal sanctuary.
