The Kids Are Alright

Saturday October 1st is the International Mountain Biking Association's annual "Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day". Plenty of research shows that parents who lead by example and participate in sports and outdoor activities will have kids who do the same--so get off the couch, turn off the XBox (you're 37 years old for the love of God), and go plunk your offspring on a set of wheels.

Don't have bikes of your own or easy access to friend or family loaners? Local organization Trips for Kids, which normally takes disadvantaged kids out for bike rides and skill-building sessions, is organizing a day at Des Moines Creek Park in South SeaTac for any interested families. They'll provide the bikes, the instruction, and lots of fun in the dirt. Remember when you didn't have computers and video games to mess with all day long, and you actually went outside and played? In the dirt? Relive the glory days, that's part of the beauty of having kids in the first place...
