It’s not the best time to be a Seattle sports fan right now. Sure the Sonics were able to re-sign Vladimir Radmanovic for the upcoming season. However, we are a bit worried that he turned down six years $42 million in order to be an un-restricted free agent at the end of next season, but right now we will take what we can get.
With the Mariners limping towards the end, the Huskies heading towards another bowless season, and the Seahawks being Seahawkish there really isn’t a lot to get excited about. It’s times like these that we look around the rest of the sports world to remind ourselves of what used to be.
Why look over in Dallas, isn’t that Mark Brunell and Drew Bledsoe facing each other like it was the early nineties? Back when Apple Cup had bowl implications, and the Cougs were able to upset the top 5 Huskies in a freaking blizzard. On Monday Brunell was able to extract some Husky revenge and lead his Redskins to a victory over Bledsoe’s Cowboys.
That was fun. Hey, look in Chicago, the White Sox almost epic collapse is reminding baseball fans of what happened in Seattle ten years ago. The Sox up 15 games in August have had their lead trimmed to a measly two and a half games. If the Indians are able to overtake them, it would be the third biggest comeback in history, bumping the Mariners' 1995 run from 13 back, down to fourth.
We remember the fall of ’95 oh so well…hold us.
Until we receive a hug, and can read the sports page without reacting like it’s the front page, it is comforting to know that the sports world around us can remind us of good times.
