There's a whole bunch of good shows coming up these next few days, so if you didn't get Arcade Fire or Death Cab tickets (both long sold out) and if you're also skipping Wolf Parade's solo set at the Croc (for which you would be both unbelievably short-sighted and incredibly lame), you can spend your evenings at few other events going on around town---
It's hard to believe, but the Northwest Film Forum is officially ten years old. To celebrate this momentous occasion, they're throwing a party tomorrow night. We think they're practicing the fine art of hyperbole when they refer to it as the "party of the decade," but it does sound like a good time:
With live music, theatrical/dance performances, a steady stream of film and video projections, a special appearance by NWFF co-founder Jamie Hook, food, drink, djs, and a newly-completed space (we're in the final stages of this massive project), there is no reason NOT to come. The red carpet awaits you.
Tickets are $5 for NWFF members or $10 general admission, and the fun begins at 8pm. Ain't no party like a NWFF party 'cuz a NWFF party don't stop. Until it does, at 2am.
Meanwhile, this Thursday at 7pm, the Tenants Union is sponsoring their 2nd annual Karaoke-A-Thon at the Mira! in Belltown. This event is a great chance for you to see people make drunken fools of themselves while also giving money to a worthy cause. To wit:
Through organizing, action, and empowerment-based education, the Tenants Union of Washington has built 28 years of victories for tenants' rights and housing justice. The foundation of the Tenants Union's strength is in the generous support of the membership. We are an organization created, sustained, and in part funded by people like you, who believe that everyone deserves a decent and affordable home. Donate to the Tenants Union today and support the struggle for justice, dignity, and a home for all.
We can't argue with that. Karaoke participants are taking pledges for their performances, and those who raise the most money can win some big prizes, like (even more) drinks, t-shirts, or gift certificates to local businesses. Surprisingly, not among the prizes: a house.
