Dynastic Eastside Football Team Ranked 12th in Nation
They crushed #3 Long Beach Poly Saturday night at Qwest Field, and today USA Today ranks the Bellevue High School Wolverines #12 in the country (and #2 in the West).
We don't know how many high school football teams there are in the U.S. One would think at least 10,000, so a #12 ranking ain't small beans.
Bellevue coach Butch Goncharoff has an unbeatable system--a high school program with its own farm system (nine junior teams), a strenuous off-season conditioning program rivalling that of Franklin High's in the early '90s, and a gimmicky offense--the Wing-T-- that employs precise fakes and misdirection to flummox opposing defenders.
The result--four straight state championships and wins against nationally-ranked opponents in consecutive years (including ending California dynasty De La Salle's 151-game winning streak in 2004). Now, a chance to reach the top of the USA Today rankings, which no Washington high school football team has ever done.
With seven regular season games left, they have plenty of chances to continue impressing whomever ranks high school teams. What a job. You could have one hell of a vacation with that guy's frequent flier points.
