Seattlest remains pretty much out of the loop when it comes to the snowboarding due to the fact that we havent even seen any snow since February... of 2004!... so we were a little surprised to read the following rant from friend and former Lib-Tech employee "S!R ONE" reacting to the recent news stories about the departure of the snowboard-related program activities manufacturing concern (insipid "humor" links provided by Seattlest):
Quiksilver is closing down a NW institution all in the name of the almighty dollar...
Synopsis:
Once, a looong time ago, some TRUE NW riders decided they wanted to craft the best snow/skateboards on the planet. They pioneered whole lots of new technology to achieve this goal, employed and INSPIRED thousands of people worldwide...But alas.....corporate politics came into play and the blood, no make that, SOUL-sucking-vampire-surf-clothing-giant-conglomerate Quiksilver was unfortunately called in to 'bail' the true riders out of a financial jam...
Fast forward 5-6 years...
Now that this vampire has sucked every ounce of soul and inspiration out of the once vibrant husk of Lib tech, they are ready to 'downsize' which basically means drive a stake through the heart of THE Pacific Northwest boardsports community/family. To add insult to injury the California fuckers won't even stand up and face the dozens of empoloyees they are about to displace and tell them like adults, "Thanks for all your years of literal blood, sweat, passion, tears, etc. Now beat it and find another job you losers!!"
FUUUUUCK Quiksilver
Truly the end of an era. Bumming out sooo many people who have been soooo stoked for nearly 20 years. Lame.
While Seattlest can sympathize on a personal level with anybody who loses their job to "outsourcing," we're kind of distracted whenever we see the words "snow" and "Utah" in the same sentence - Mmmmm, Utaaahhhhh... - and considering the general snow conditions of our pathetic local snowboarding options who can blame us? For what its worth, Seattlest wishes whatever good luck there is to be had to all the displaced workers who got shafted in this corporate consolidation move.
