Landslide
Have you ever driven Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass and looked up at the portions of the road where the road cuts into the mountain and all that seems to be keeping the rocks in place is some chicken wire--or nothing at all--and sort of crossed your fingers in the same way that you do when you drive the Viaduct?
Well, the chicken wire didn't cut it early Sunday morning, when a rockslide crushed a Volvo carrying three 28-year-old women, whose names have yet to be released pending notification of the families.
According to the Seattle Times, much of the road is under surveillance by geologists, but this portion had not been identified as a high-risk spot. The road reopened at 3 pm Sunday, presumably secured.
It was only last week that a similarly super-scary accident happened on 90, closer to Issaquah--a fiery crash that killed one person and injured three others, one who was seriously hurt when he jumped a barrier to get away from the fire, not knowing that there was a 25-foot-drop on the other side.
