Shin Kicked For Democracy

Richard Lee, mayoral candidate in 2001 and again here in 2005 (and, dare we dream, 2009?) and public access TV host, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly kicking the shin of a Greg Nickels bodyguard. Lee's formidable political machine has been campaigning on the "Cobain was murdered and everyone in office was somehow involved" issue for years, an issue which his opponents have been wisely refusing to touch after recognizing it as a clear winner for Lee.

The arrest was the result of an incident that took place at the end of a Nickels campaign event at the Center of the Universe. When the mayor (rattled by questions regarding the expired musician's death, according to Lee) was making his exit a bodyguard attempted to prevent Lee from approaching. A kick was delivered. An arrest was made. Voters will sort things out soon enough. Lee said of the scuffle in the P-I, "It was a pretty good piece of film."

On his own campaign website he was surprisingly only slightly more verbose:

16 hours in custody was highly objectionable, but certainly nothing new, and rapid action with a bail bond agency made this my briefest stay ever in King County lock-up. We especially wanted to achieve freedom to appear at a candidates' forum tonight, but alas, Mr. Nickels sent word that he had a "schedule conflict" and would not appear.

Perhaps also of interest is his other, issue-related site.

  • Damn I love Seattle.

I ran into Richard Lee back when I lived in Freemont.

As a member of the Young Democrats I can not offically endorse poltical shin kicking.
