Learn How to Write What You Know

Of late, Seattlest has not been keeping up with local lit -- we've been on a Dashiell Hammett kick, actually. Highly recommended, but not remotely Seattlesque.
We have noticed, however, that Richard Hugo House has posted its fall class schedule. If we can't catch up with the local literary scene, we can at least help nudge people into joining it.
Multi-week courses are scheduled on weeknights through October and November, and cost$120 for members and $130 for non-members. You can get help Writing Poetry or Writing the Graphic Novel, or even attend the Novel Immersion class to help you get ready for NaNoWriMo (that's National Novel Writing Month, for those of you not hep to what's cool on the literary scene, wherein participants attempt to write a complete novel in 1 month).
Shorter seminars ($65 members/$75 non-members) include Writing Popular Culture (a.k.a. How to Put Seattlest Out of a Job) and -- our favorite title -- Fiction and Metaphor: Juggling a Toaster, an Apple and a Chainsaw.
Seattlest would love to take several of these courses -- we suspect we've got a graphic novel in us somewhere. This particular incarnation of Seattlest, however, will likely be otherwise occupied during fall quarter. We may have to wait for winter -- unless we opt to take the very apropos Bedtime Stories seminar.
But you? Go for it. Set free your inner Octavia Butler.
