Finding Ourselves

mini-carnival.jpg

What exactly is behind our sudden fascination with "found" material? Are we simply so enamoured with the cheap voyueristic thrills that reality television affords us that we've begun seeking out similar glimpses into the lives of others? Get away from that window you freak! Perverts...

Can you explain the popularity of Overhead In New York? Our brothers in arms at Chicagoist picked up on the idea as well, as has Torontoist. Is that muffled roar a clamboring for Overheard In Seattle? This seems to be a meme the people are liking and Seattlest traces it back to the Trachtenburgs. Yes, they started it all.

mini-fff_logo.jpgSeattlest talked about Found Magazine and their recent Seattle event already, and we present to you today another opportunity to watch what you were never intended to see. The Found Footage Festival rolls through the U District tomorrow night with a stop at the Varsity Theater.

From their website:

From the curiously-produced industrial training video to the forsaken home movie donated to Goodwill, the Found Footage Festival resurrects these forgotten treasures and serves them up in an entertaining 90-minute celebration of all things found.

It'll cost you a ten spot to watch these comedians point and laugh at the various video oddities tomorrow night at 9:30pm at the Varsity.

  • I do think that much credit is due to Mighty Girl, who as far as I know pioneered the blog "overheard" format (at least when it comes to public transport). So successfully, that Defective Yeti even fesses up to riding her coat-tails.

Sorry this didn't make it into the post originally. The time I have from them is 9:30pm Friday.

  • Does anyone know what time this event starts tomorrow night?
