Tasty, Tasty Taco Truck
When we were growing up in Seattle, University Village was the shopping center you visited when you were too poor to afford Northgate, Crown Books was Ballard's hippest store, and good Mexican food was impossible to obtain.
South of the border options were limited to cheese-heavy Azteca or Jalisco, or taco-purveying Bells and Times.
But now--thanks to a growing Hispanic community--you can find good Mexican food in the most unexpected places: like Shoreline.
That's the location of a full-time taco truck we like. A taco trailer, if you will. It's hidden away next to a Mexican grocery store on the southeast corner of 180th and Aurora, kitty corner from Highland Ice Arena. Getting there couldn't be easier--just head north on Aurora and take a right on 180th. It's a yellow trailer on your right. There's ample parking and seating underneath a tent-like structure.
We went with two friends yesterday, and had a satisfying lunch for three that cost $16.50. I enjoyed the chicken enchilada (moist, tender chicken and yummy beans), my friends had tortas and wet vegetarian burritos, respectively. On a previous visit, we sampled the pork and beef tacos and found them comparable to those found at taco trucks we enjoyed when we lived in L.A.
You are not going to write home about this food. But it is better than anything you'll get at the Azteca's of the world, and cheap, too. The yellow taco trailer is open until 9:30 pm on weeknights. Get thee north for a taste of the south.
