Western Recall
Recall elections are awesome. A few years ago we were lucky enough to go through one in California. It turned an ordinary fall into a non-stop free for all of stump speech watching action. In the end we got a new governor who knows a little something about excitement, and the American political process got a little gooder.
Now the Washington State Supreme Court may give the good people of Spokane a chance to hold their own recall election. It seems some Sponakaneites are a smidge cross at their mayor, Jim West, for promising city hall internships to individuals he met in gay chat rooms and allegedly sexually abusing young boys.
The case is being raised by Shannon Sullivan, a Spokane mother who, with her supporters, held a car wash to raise money to make the trip across the state. Sullivan complains that West's promises of internships to young men are enough to get him sent packing from his post.
According to the PI West's lawyers arguee that, "Sullivan's recall petition is based on innuendo and insinuation; that newspaper articles are not proof of misfeasance."
