Monday Mourning - R.I.P. Dr. Robert Moog
It is a sad day for the music world. None of the usual blog-snarkiness in this post, for Robert Moog, synthesizer/theremin
pioneer has died. Whether you've heard of him or not, know that Moog's death is as big as Peter Jennings' death was to the world of journalism. His work helped to change the face of music, both in the rock and electronic realms.
Seattle's various scenes abound with Moog influence, from the organic 4/4 thumps at Rebar to the more experimental sounds of Hakea and Synth club. Indie acts like Headphones and Aqueduct owe their original sounds to their creative synth work, which IQU's electro-pop one-ups through inclusion of the ethereal theremin.
So go home tonight, put on some Stereolab, put moog in your Netflix queue, and give the man your personal thanks. Seattle's music scene wouldn't be what it is without him.
