These Documentaries are Not an Illusion
Seattlest enjoys a good documentary, so we were excited to see that the Grand Illusion will be showing two politically-charged features later this week. They sound like doozies:
· Twist of Faith, a 2005 Oscar nominee for Best Documentary, deals with the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal head on---by following a now-adult survivor of molestation, as he first reports the abuse and then takes his bishop to court. This film played at SIFF earlier this year and is only back for four screenings: Saturday and Sunday at 3pm & 5pm.
· This Divided State takes you back to those heady days of upheaval before the 2004 election, when all anyone talked about was red or blue. The film focuses on the controversy that arose when Michael Moore was invited to speak at Utah Valley State College. This event triggered a maelstrom, as neighbor turned against neighbor over the issue. Those who supported Moore were thought to have betrayed their religion, their family, and their country, while people on both sides painted the debate in terms of good vs. evil. Seriously, check out the trailer, things got ugly. Even now, it seems that the wounds haven't quite healed. You've got a whole week to see this one: Friday August 19th-Thursday August 25th, 7pm & 9pm.

Meanwhile, if you were hoping to attend the 6pm or 8:30pm screenings of Hump! this Saturday at the NWFF, you're S.O.L., as tickets went on sale Friday afternoon and were sold out by Sunday night.
However, tickets are now available for additional screenings at 12:30 pm & 3pm on Saturday, even though the official word is that these tix are not on sale until noon tomorrow. $15. Go get 'em. Or at least stop by the free after-party/awards ceremony at Chop Suey later that night.
We'll keep you (snicker) abreast of any further Hump! developments.
