Awesome and Awesomer

Some things never change: the sun rises and sets, the seasons come and go, the Cubs have another lousy year---and we still love "Awesome." Yes, "Awesome," local comedy troupe/rock band, well-known 'round these parts for their self-described "absurdist garage art-pop with indie-prog sensibilities," about which we have previously gushed.

After a stint recording their first album (out this fall), "Awesome" is back to playing shows, and you've got two chances to see them in the next four days. Tonight, they'll be at the Rendezvous Jewel Box Theater at 10:30pm ($8). This is always a good intimate venue to see them live, and the show will assuredly sell out, so get there early to guarantee seating. And while you're there early, head downstairs to The Grotto to get a drink, hang out with the band, and revel in your undeniable coolness.

If you're unable to make tonight's show, don't fret, for your second chance is this Monday at the Sunset Tavern at 9pm ($5). It'll be "Awesome"'s first time at the Ballard rock club (they don't get out much), where they're playing with The Lottery and opening for Daphne the Painted Lady. We haven't heard of those two bands either, but apparently they’re from L.A. Whatevs, we'll be there, we just want our "Awesome."
