Light in August

Ryan Adams, the prolific bad-boy of alt country, is performing tonight and tomorrow at the Moore Theatre. Despite the fact that he once referred to his former girlfriend Parker Posey as his exe-'cute'-ive, we still have a soft spot in our heart for the guy. His songs are generally pretty good and if you ignore the fact that he releases approximately 14 albums a year, you are almost guaranteed to have a good time. Plus, he will most likely play his radio hit 'New York, New York' and he stopped getting so angry when people scream out 'Play 'Summer of '69'!' during his set.

If you are feeling in a more teen angsty as conveyed through middle-aged white guys then tomorrow you might want to check out the Ozzfest at the White River Amphitheatre. Bands include the charming in 2001 Ozzie Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie and our favorite band named after a piece by Faulkner As I Lay Dying. We are at some point hoping to ask the band if they considered changing their name since Oprah called this the summer of Faulkner, but then again is there any talk show host more metal than Oprah? Sorry, Tony Danza it's true.

Springsteen is also playing tomorrow at the Key Arena. May we suggest craigslist?

And, unfortunately for us fans here in Seattle, that makes 3 canceled shows over the past 2 years. The last time he toured, he broke his wrist falling off a stage in England, and this time, after 2 reportedly incoherent performances in Canada, cancelled "due to illness," undoubtedly caused by excessive drug use. There is a rumor circulating that his band actually quit after the show in Vancouver Tuesday night, which might expain the last minute cancellation. As one of his most dedicated fans, a very disappointing bit of news, indeed.

  • the main problem with ryan adams isn't that he's prolific or a celbrity dater, it's that both of the seattle shows have been cancelled.
