The Search for the Best...Cheeseburger (Rnd 2 - Pt 2 )

30895205_50162f7bd5_o.jpgOh yes, it's that time again. The time to create fake controversy through a contrived contest that delivers nothing but bragging rights.

That's right...it's another burger battle in our quest to find the best damn cheeseburger in Seattle, Mad Cow be damned.

Red Mill, who beat the holy bejesus out of the Deluxe, goes up against massive underdog Daly's, who barely beat longtime Seattle fav Dick's Drive-in.

Can Daly's defeat the juggernaut known as Red Mill (recently claimed to be one of the 20 best burgers in the NATION)? Only we here at Seattlest can give you the side by side comparison. Hit the jump to get the tale of the tape.

Bun: Daly's burger (pictured above) give a nice, inoffensive white bun that was toasted and buttered. It was nice, but unremarkable. Red Mill slips in quality from our last visit. The bun was also toasted and buttered, and the sesame seed bun is always a better choice than a burger without, but Red mill gave us a bun that was stale. Whoops.

Daly's - 7.5/ Red Mill - 6.0

Burger: Daly's flaws with their burger is two fold: Tastless and grainy meat, which is then only slightly char broiled. Red Mill's burger could easily stand alone without the bun and cheese and still be tasty. Red Mill's burger is flavorful, spicy and doesn't rely on fire for taste.

Daly's - 5.0/ Red Mill - 9.0

Burger/Bun Ration: Burger/Bun ration at Daly's was near perfect.

Once again, Red Mill's cheeseburger was a little more bun than burger, but not offensively so.

Daly's - 9.0/ Red Mill - 7.0

Cheese:Daly's other flaw comes with their cheese. Oh it's there, and when tasted alone, it's sweet and distinct. But there's only one slice, and it's taste and texture is overwhelmed by lettuce and pickles. You can only slightly tell that there's cheese on their cheese burger.

Red Mill doesn't hide their cheese. Only one slice, like Daly's, but you can taste it and feel it. Call us wacky, but one should be able to taste cheese in a cheeseburger.

Daly's - 6.0/ Red Mill - 8.5

Misc.

Daly's went overboard on the lettuce. When a burger tastes partly like a salad, you've got problems. They do have a nice Milkshake selection and decent if not good fries.

For all of the flaws mentioned above, Red Mill's burger just overwhelmed them and made them a non-issue. Slightly stale bun? Bah, who cares when the meat and cheese are so distinct. They also have a nice Milkshake selection and decent fries. Should we mention that their location was also cleaner that Daly's? Hell yes.

Daly's - 6.0/ Red Mill - 8.0

The final score? Daly's gets a 6.7 average while Red Mill garners a 7.7 average. Red Mill will head to the finals against Six Arms, in order to determine the title "The Burger from which all others must be judged".

My husband and I traveled from Orlando to Seattle last weekend for our 15th anniversary in search of the best cheeseburger. Based on the recommendations from this posting, we gave Red Mill a try. We weren't disappointed. We visited the W. Dravus location. Just wanted to add our vote to the final tally.

You don't have to go to a burger joint to try the best burger in Seattle. Head up to the Paragon on top of Queen Anne to try their American Kobe Beef Burger, it's practically two meals in one, and ask anyone...it's the best burger in town!

I dare you to put the Wegdewood Ale House to the Red Mill test. "The wedgie" has the best burgers in town.
