Chamber Music Soothes, Refreshes

As a classically-trained musician, Seattlest often looks to classical music to get us through the rough times. We all have our crutches, right? Well, we're happy to say that tomorrow will bring a perfect opportunity to sit around and emote with the music. Seattle Chamber Music Society has been performing this month at the Lakeside School, and they wrap up their Lakeside series tomorrow night. (You can buy tickets here.) Perhaps you're thinking, "That Seattlest! Why didn't they tell us about this sooner?" Never fear, dear readers: the series continues in August! The only change is that in August, they play across the lake at the Overlake School (fittingly enough) in Redmond.

chamber2.gifSeattlest likes a few things about these chamber music series: first, the programs are varied, and the program liner notes give you the perfect amount of information about the pieces and the composers. You feel empowered to appreciate the music more fully, but not like you had to study for any music history tests. Second, you don't even have to buy a ticket if you don't want to. You can sit out on the lawn of the school and listen to the performance piped through speakers. Seattlest doesn't recommend this as the best option though, as there will be families and children running around, and you won't be able to see the lively interplay that occurs between members of a chamber group as they perform.

So if you need a balm for your soul, or if you're just jonesing for some classical music, Seattlest fully recommends the Seattle Chamber Music Society.
