U District Still Exists
Seattlest knows that the U-District has its drawbacks- parking, obnoxious students, bioterror laboratories- uh, scratch that last one... but a pleasant Saturday can easily be found there. Check out the Big Book Sale at the U-Bookstore. Witness the crowds at the Farmer’s Market, now that everything is in season. And if you’re seeking shelter from all that hideous sunlight, the Grand Illusion is screening Rolling Thunder, a William Devane starring revenge flick scripted by Paul Schrader.
Released in 1977, Schrader penned it between two other efforts you might be familiar with- Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. And not only do you get the aforementioned Devane, but they’re throwing in Tommy Lee Jones and Dabney Coleman, to boot. We’re sure you’ll agree the film has a strong pedigree. We’re also sure to see all good Bonnie “Prince” Billy fans there, as well. He and collaborator Matt Sweeney lifted a sample from the film for "Blood Embrace," a track on their justly lauded recent effort, Superwolf. Oh, you were wondering where that sample was from? You can’t say we never gave you anything.
