One Week Only--Everyone Must Go!
We've announced the season's demise before, but, after losing 7 of 10 on their post-All Star Game road trip, the Mariners are officially done. The lights are out, the door's closed, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard, and the Jello is jiggling, as Chick Hearn would say.
So, ironically, the stage is set for what will probably be the most interesting week of the entire crappy 2005 Mariners season--the six days between now and Major League Baseball's trading deadline.
Let the wheeling and dealing begin! Jamie Moyer, Eddie Guardado and Randy Winn have been the subject of considerable discussion.
The Mariners will try to get either a starting pitching prospect or a power-hitting outfielder in exchange for their remaining talent. Hopefully, this will lead to a less crappy 2006.
The team begins a seven game homestand tonight with a 7:05 game vs. Detroit. Buy tickets. Chances are that some of the players that start this week in a Mariner uniform won't be here by homestand's end.
