Too Wild for Zappa

Last night Seattlest's favorite film forum screened Seattlest's new favorite film of 2005: Derailroaded: Inside the Mind of Larry "Wild Man" Fischer. Your chances of seeing this hilarious/tragic/bizarre/unforgettable documentary are limited to this Friday/Saturday/Sunday at 7:15 and 9pm at the Northwest Film Forum, and go you must.
Seattlest enjoyed the added bonus of a special Q&A session with the filmmakers and the contributing local comics creators Pat Moriarity, who contributed the animated sequence, and Real Stuff writer Dennis Eichorn, who recalls his personal experiences with the Wildman. Toward the end of the film there's a brief glimpse of what looked like a J.R. Williams comic that depicts Fischer removing a tampon from a lady; upon questioning from the audience, Eichorn admitted that said lady was in fact Eichorn's own wife, and that the event effectively ended his marriage. Also in the Q&A, Moriarity talked about the Wildman Totem Pole he made about Fischer's life and the tumultuous relationship Fischer had with the depiction; Seattlest nearly wept.
There's too much to be said about the life of the Wildman--his troubled relationship with Frank Zappa, his meteoric success surpassing even the Beatles, his duet with Rosemary Clooney--to fit in to one measely Seattlest blog post, so just trust us for once: Go see this movie! You will not be disappointed.
