This Guy Is (Probably) Running for Senate

Last week former governor-elect-for-a-few-weeks Dino Rossi announced that he will not run against Senator Maria Cantwell in next year's election. While this was not a complete shock, it has started a chain of events that could have Safeco CEO Mike McGavick announce his candidacy by the end of the week.

After Rossi made his announcement, state Republican Party Chair Chris Vance also stated that he would not seek the seat, which leads to McGavick, currently the party's top choice.

Former Eastside Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn said, "Everybody's asked him to run. It is like a draft. We all just like the idea a lot."

Today the Times is reporting that "Safeco said this morning that it plans to announce second-quarter earnings today rather than tomorrow as planned. The change spurred further speculation that CEO Mike McGavick is on the verge of announcing plans to run for the U.S. Senate."

Other possible candidates are former federal prosecutor Diane
Tebelius, former Congressman Rick White, and two-time Emmy nominee
Brad Garrett.
