Burlesque's Movers and Shakers

Seattle may not be the heart of the burlesque revival, but we're definitely an artery. Several talented local troupes help return the word "saucy" to our vocabulary--the Atomic Bombshells, Glitzkrieg, Burning Hearts Burlesque and others. There are regular shows: Burning Hearts' Bed Room Club happens Thursdays at the Fenix Underground, and the Pink Door hosts a show every Saturday night. And when the Bombshells return from the east coast this fall, they'll be back at the Mirabeau Room for weekly performances.
Another compelling reason for Seattle's burlesque prowess: Miss Indigo Blue. She's an amazing performer--her routine set to "Pour Some Sugar in My Bowl" gave Seattlest a whole new appreciation of the erotics of C&H. And she keeps the town's nipples covered in fun, fashionable pasties through TwirlyGirl.
But Miss Indigo Blue really ensures Seattle's spot in the burlesque spotlight because she trains the next generation of performers. Her website features information on upcoming workshops--including a three-day burlesque retreat on Lopez Island August 12-14. We won't be there, since Seattlest (at least this incarnation of Seattlest) doesn't self-identify as a woman--but we can't wait to see the results.
