Summer’s Classic Lull
It’s summer, or at least it is practically everywhere else in the country, and every classical musical group in this town and towns nearby seems to be taking a summer hiatus. Seattlest thinks a lot of people are heading out of town this weekend anyway, so perhaps this break is a good business move for the classical folks.
We’d love to be able to tell you about upcoming attractions, but many groups have yet to release their 2005-2006 calendars. We do know that Seattle Opera is gearing up for their biggest Ring cycle ever, and we’ll keep you posted on that (complete with reviews!) as the dates get nearer. They’re currently selling tickets for their upcoming season as well (peruse the lineup and buy tickets here).
Seattle Symphony wraps up their season with a run of Bugs Bunny’s most popular opera send-ups (Seattlest will now be hearing "Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit!" in our head for about a day). They’ll play the toons on the big screen and accompany them live. This kid-friendly show runs July 7th through 10th. You can buy tickets here.
Also ongoing is the Olympic Music Festival, which is now in its second week. They’re giving another all-Beethoven program, in three different flavors: trio, quartet and quintet. Quite delightful. Buy tickets here, and join the throngs getting out of dodge.
