Yesterday's Mariner win was the most satisfying game the team has played in months. Why? A six-run seventh inning.
Six-run seventh innings, we have decided, rank with oysters, Johnny Hodges' tone, and the love of a good woman at the apex of life's pleasures.
Best of all, the Mariners scored their six runs off of Marlins ace Josh Beckett, icing the game and securing a 2-1 series victory.
Here's the "How they scored," only because we want to look at it over and over today.
-- Bret Boone grounded out short to first.
-- Michael Morse singled to center.
-- Pat Borders was hit-by-pitch.
-- Aaron Sele grounded into a fielder's choice, pitcher to third.
-- Ichiro Suzuki singled to center scoring Pat Borders.
-- Randy Winn singled to left scoring Aaron Sele.
-- Adrian Beltre walked.
-- Richie Sexson doubled to left scoring Ichiro Suzuki and Randy Winn.
-- Raul Ibanez singled to center scoring Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson.
-- Bret Boone struck out swinging to end the inning.
Note that Boone and the pitcher were the only two players to make outs in the inning. Boone's utter collapse continues.
The Mariners now go to D.C. for their first-ever series in "the Other Washington." Watch these games instead of watching this year's NBA finals. Do anything instead of watching this year's NBA championship series, which is, with the exception of Chaotic, the most boring thing on television.
