Our Cupcake Obsession

cupcakeroyale.jpgSeattlest recieved an e-mail recently, pointing us to an article in the Village Voice about sensuality and food. In the article, one person mentioned about how they believe that cupcakes are a "sexy food."

Now we're not one to cast judgment...ahem...okay, we are ones to cast judgment. Cupcakes are sexual? Really?

To each their own, we suppose, but to us, cupcakes bring forth memories of our youth. We remember all the different ways that we could eat the delicious treats: Licking off the frosting before indulging in the cake; taking the wrapper off and eating from the bottom up, saving the sweetened frosting for last; sometimes we even used a fork, especially when said cupcake came from an easy bake oven. No matter which way we ate the darn things, we always seemed to get an exasperated look from our parents, signaling to us that eating cupcakes is as much about playing with your food as it is about eating it.

Which brings Seattlest to Cupcake Royale (Warning: Flash only site). These are people who understand that cupcakes bring out the child in us. Heck, they even state that not only are their ingredients fresh, but they're "Mom approved."

Part coffeehouse, part bakery, Cupcake Royale is the type of place you go to if you feel that your standard coffeehouses in Seattle are 'too serious.' From the menu they offer both vanilla and chocolate cakes, as moist as they can be. The chocolate cake has chocolate melted right into the batter!

But it was the choice of buttercream frostings that made Seattlest weep openly. Their flavors include Chocolate, Vanilla, Lavender, Lemon, and Butter mint. Then you can choose to have coconut, candied flowers, or sprinkles tossed ontop.

Did we mention you can get coffee roasted fresh by Caffe Umbria? Not only coffee, by the way, but also a nice selection of loose leaf teas.

Cupcakes bring out the best in us, regardless of whether it's our sensual side or the child within us. It's good to know that there are cupcake enablers out there who wish only to make us happy.

I used to love buying cupcakes for two bucks apiece when I was a kid.

  • Oh I've seen it. I chose to ignore it as crossing the sexuality aspect with my memories of my childhood gave me the heebie jeebies. I admit to having issues.

But you're right, there's certainly a wink and a nod to the sinfulness of cupcakes in the way the place promotes itself. A few weeks back they had pics of Burlesque performer Trixie Lane all over their walls.
