Allegations but No Proof in Wenatchee

Sure there may be bigger stories nationally, but locally all anyone can talk about is the governor election trial taking place in Wenatchee.

The biggest problem for the Republicans during the trial is that they have no actual proof of premediated electoral fraud, just allegations.

They currently argue that the Secretary of State’s office is biased, and claim that elections director Nick Handy is favoring the Democrats and helping the cause of county auditors who have been admitting to mistakes. Handy counters that he is neutral.

Without any hard evidence, the Republicans' only hope is that the courts will base their decision on statistical proportionality. However, this seems unlikely as Judge John Bridges wavered on if he would even allow this evidence in the trial.

The other mindblowing revelation from the past few days is that during large elections mistakes are made. This has been our feeling all along. These types of errors are nothing new: ineligible people vote, ballots go un-counted, totals don’t add up, the vice-principal picks her favorite right before the Homecoming assembly--it all goes unnoticed until there is a close election and everything becomes exposed. It has happened before and it will happen again. We will never know who actually won this election.

The trial should conclude by the end of the week, at which time it will be appealed to a higher court, and will eventually be decided by an All Mighty flip of the coin broadcast live on PAX.

  • I have a micro brew on ice and a sympathy card for the local right wing extremist bloggers for when this theater piece is over.
