Actually, We Often Say “Die”

mini-GNSDmap.jpg’80s nostalgia fetishists from around the globe will descend on Astoria, OR this coming weekend, June 3-5, for the Goonies 20th Anniversary Celebration, honoring the epic Cold War classic that according to many film critics encapsulated an era with its subtle yet strained references to the Iran/Contra scandal.

Advance registration for the Celebration comes highly recommended, as the Goonies “dinner” event has evidently sold out. Sixty bucks gets you a “weekend pass” (ostensibly an $80 value), which includes admission to one of the many weekend screenings of said film at the Columbian theater (serving gourmet pizza throughout the theater and beer & wine in the balcony), along with a new documentary on the film in question, a bus tour of important Goonies locations, as well as other goodies like an Official Event T-shirt and a Collectible “Goonies Never Say Die”

Goonies star Jeff Cohen, aka “Chunk”, will be on hand for a multi-media stage show entitled “Growing Up Goonie” (also covered by the weekend pass) and will compete in an ominous sounding “Truffle Shuffle Dance Contest” with hapless victims selected from the audience, who will hopefully possess the requisite Truffle Shuffle body type.
