Local Ball Teams Exhibit Competence
This weekend, for the first time in a month, the Mariners played like a good baseball team, winning a series from NL-West leading San Diego.
On Saturday, the stars led the way. On defense, Ichiro stole a home run from Ryan Klesko with a leaping grap at the rightfield wall. On offense, Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson hit 440+ foot home runs on consecutive pitches in the sixth inning.
On Sunday, Aaron Sele threw a complete game shutout, his first since 2002. The performance lowered Sele's ERA by a full run.
Another local nine (well, 10) acquainted themselves with success this weekend. The University of Washington Softball team advanced to the NCAA Tournament Super Regional by winning their regional tournament.
The Mariners are traveling to Baltimore today, and will start a three-game series with the Orioles on Tuesday.
The Huskies face top-seeded Michigan in a best-of-three series beginning Friday.
