John 3:16

We read in the P-I today that the Washington Department of Licensing has rejected a complaint about the alleged offensiveness of a "JOHN316" license plate.

We briefly got very very excited, thinking that perhaps the car belonged to Rockin' Rollen Stewart, the rainbow-wigged man who managed to pop up at every freakin' sports event of our childhood and adolescence bearing a "John 3:16" placard. Rainbow Man in Olympia? Perfect!

Not to be. If Rollen Stewart has a car, he ain't drivin' it. Quickie research tells us his fascinating story: the rainbow wig and the popping up everywhere was his shot at getting noticed. "John 3:16" only came along after he became born-again. How he got from born-again to bombing churches and serving a life sentence in prison for kidnapping...no one can really say.
