Seattle Pedia

seattlewikipedia.JPGWhile going through and cleaning out old emails, we found an email that Seattlest had written to Seattlest not long ago. It said to check out WikiPedia's entry for Seattle. And of course there is our own local wiki, Seattle Wiki.

It turns out that you can learn a lot from a wiki:

1) Seattleites
If you live in Seattle, you are known as a Seattleite. If you are cool and famous, you may be listed at Wikipedia as a Seattleite. The other weekend, while “hiking” Discovery Park, a couple passed with a smile and a nod - which is common - but what was uncommon was the look of the guy. I could’ve sworn it was Ron Reagan – the President’s son – right here in our Emerald City. I checked out Wikipedia's list of Seattleites and found that indeed Ronnie has moved to our fair metropolis. That guy was probably him!!

2) Young Emerald City
Seattle is the Emerald City, but just since 1982 when they held a contest to give the city a nickname. That is silly.

3) Seattle Economy
Did you know that Seattle is so corporate? We've got a number of large businesses. Need a job? Here is Wikipedia's list of companies based in Seattle

4) Street Disagreement
Two of Seattle's founders disagreed on the direction that streets should travel in their plots of land and now we have to deal with the confusion.

5) Cultural Events
We've got culture. Maybe not as much as New York, but we've got some. Does the Folk Life Festival count as culture?

6) Seattle Parks
Seattle has a lot of great parks. Wikipedia has a great little, simple list of them, cool!
