Black Panther Reunion
The Seattle Black Panther Party will hold a reunion this weekend, including films, music, speeches, and a Q&A with Bobby Seale.
It's hard to imagine that Madrona--a neighborhood so gentrified that it's out-of-reach for most everyone--was once the center of political activism for the Black Panther Party. The group's office was on 34th Avenue--as was a real-estate office that members fire-bombed. Keeping with the topsy-turvy nature of the group, the free medical clinic they founded still exists, now as the Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center at 21st and Yesler.
The Black Panther Party website has a cool collection of photographs and ephemera online--check it out.
