Some Rawk and 'O.C' Love
While growing up on the streets of Detroit, we used to love the sounds of the city, with hip-hop mixing with rock mixing with Motown. The city was like a sonic melting pot where each walk to a Tigers game was an education in the music of the late 20th century. Okay, that's a lie. We've never actually been to Detroit, but it sure sounds neat. The band that best embodies the Detroit sound is the Detroit Cobras who bring a rawk sound played with righteous fury to standards from the 50's and 60's. This may sound a little weird and frankly it is, but these classic sounds are so flawless that they translate amazingly well into something very compelling.
Unsane will be performing at the Sunset Tavern tomorrow night. Oh boy, they sure are loud and angry. When Spinal Tap turned the volume up to 11, they were barely at a 4 compared to Unsane. If you listened to Pennywise or Helmet back in the day then this is the thrash-y rock show for you.
If you are looking for something softer (and, if so, we may think of challenging your manhood), Aqueduct is playing at the Vera on Saturday night. Their songs are cute and have nice harmonies. Plus, one of their songs was on an episode of the 'O.C.' and if going to the show can make us feel even slightly closer to Ryan, Summer and especially Sandy, we'll be there. Okay, now feel free to challenge our manhood.
