11:30pm girls - Canterbury Ale & Eats
When you’re really hung over, you want some breakfast in your belly asap. You don’t want to stand under the hot sun amidst a crowd of loudly talking strangers as you wait 30 minutes for a table at Coastal Kitchen. If you’re confined to eating on the strip on 15th St. in Cap Hill because you need_food_now, your only other option for bacon and eggs is Canterbury Ale & Eats. It’s dark, it’s quiet and it’s quite cool inside. Unfortunately, it smells like last night.
But last Sunday, Canterbury was the clear winner for us. The place was nearly empty. A few people were at the bar, a few patrons were sitting head down at tables, scarfing their food. We dove into a big, soft booth near a (small) window. Ahhh.
No sun, no noise, just quiet.
The coffee showed up right away. And 20 minutes later (a long wait, but totally worth it) we got our grub: one order of bacon, eggs and blueberry pancakes, and another of the Canterbury scramble, which scrambles up a bunch of satiating goodness, and comes with hashbrowns and toast. The food is standard breakfast fare, nothing special. But, man did it hit the spot. Try it next time you're in a similar jam
