Hail a Water Taxi

watertaxi.jpegWest Seattle is just days away from the springtime resurrection of it's lifeline to the downtown waterfront: the water taxi. Beginning May, 1, Three dollars will get you across Elliot Bay aboard the Argosy Sightseer. Strangely, it will only cost you $1 if you can also come up with a valid Metro transfer, so you penny-pinchers can save yourselves $0.50 by going that route. The Sightseer will leave from pier 55 every hour on the half hour from 8-10pm on Saturdays and make the return trip from Seacrest Park on the hour. The full schedule, in all its irregular glory, is here.

You can see from the handy map that Metro has provided and we've duplicated for you here that there are plenty of activities on the east side of the bay, but Seattlest feels that West Seattle is getting the short end of the, uh, map here. Really, who's so unfamiliar with the lay of the land downtown that they'd need this map? We just can't imagine a West Seattle family sitting around the kitchen planning out the weekend's activities with this map spread out on the table. "You know Seattle has an International District? Let's go!"

A little more description of the West Seattle side would be nice, not that "restaurant" isn't really helpful and all. Would it have killed them to print the restaurant's name on the map? For all we know it could be McDonalds over there. Most of us know it's actually Salty's, but it's not a given. There's also no mention whatsoever of Alki Beach despite the fact that it's the main reason you'd want to take the taxi over.
