Weekend Art

First Thursday passed, and if you did the Walk that doesn't mean that you've put in your art appreciation time for the month and you're off the hook. There're some exhibits worth seeing at COCA and Born Magazine's "Help Wanted" show, specifically the "Afterwords" video wall. Don't miss it--it's behind the rummage sale/"Estate of Beverly Thomas" piece.

mini-gmc.jpgStudent art will be on display at the sexy new gallery "Washington State Convention & Trade Center" on Saturday when the Academy of Art University makes the trek up from San Francisco. There's going to be an art exhibition as well as opportunites for students to learn about the school and have their portfolios reviewed. Seattlest guesses they're going to be slightly more honest than your boyfriend and mom.

Friend of Seattlest Lars Van Dooren will be hosting an artist reception Friday from 6:30-midnight in his space at 4810 Airport Way S. in Georgetown. His painfully intricate ink and graphite work on paper require looks from two inches and ten feet. Seattlest will be taking something home from this one. Worth a stop even without the music provided by members of Seattle's Mean Recess.

Dutch architect and Koolhaas collaborator Matthjis Bouw will be participating in the intriguingly named "Building North Pacific America: A Lecture and Dance Party" event at NWFF Sunday. We are unable to verify this at the moment, but Seattlest suspects Bouw will do the lecturing while Mount Eerie handles the dance party. That's Sunday at 5pm at NWFF.

Finally, remember that Seattlest Don and his band Life in a Blender will be participating in a Bonni Suval benefit tonight at the Sunset in Ballard.
