11:30pm girls - #1 New York Pizza & Italian Food

Who are the 11:30pm girls?

What: #1 New York Pizza & Italian Food
When: Sat, Apr 2, 1pm

We’ve found the best pizza place in Seattle. It looks like a bait and tackle shop on the outside (scary) and is in Snohomish (far), but it’s absolutely worth the initial fright and the journey. And with good directions the trip is just 30 minutes from Cap Hill.

#1 New York Pizza & Italian Food is owned by Tony and Relita, a retired couple from Queens. Tony made pizza for nearly two decades in NY before moving out here with his wife about 18 years ago. They’ve been at their current location for 11 years.

We ordered a large pie with pepperoni and mushrooms marinated in garlic. To die for. They make it the New York way, putting the pepperoni on at the very end, so the meat never sees the inside of the oven. We spent the afternoon rapturously eating the pie (off paper plates!) and chatting with Relita, who hasn’t lost a bit of her East Coast flavah.

Our next trip here is planned for late April, and we’re bringing all our friends. It would be cruel to deny anyone such goodness.

17809 Hwy 9 S.E., Snohomish. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 11am – 8pm. 360-668-7282. Eat-in & Carry-out service. Cash only. Large, cheese pie costs $15.50.

I went here based on your review, and all I can say is, I want some of what you are smoking in the office. This pizza was awful! The worst I've ever had outside of a microwave box. The crust had about as much apeal as said box, and the cheese was particularly grotesque. I tried two slices, one with peperoni and one with sausage, and both toppings tasted as if they came straight from QFC.

I also grew up in New York, and I have to tell you, this would get you lynched if you served it there. The closest I've found to decent NY pizza here is Piecora's in Kirkland. Unfortunately they can be a bit inconsistent from day to day, and they use ground sausage instead of sliced as a topping, but even so they serve a slice that is miles better than so called #1!
