A Trolley for Two

It looks like a city council race will have issues other then off leash areas and transportation woes. The fate of the trolley has become part of the campaign for those seeking City Council Position 2.
Sure, it is not as exciting as strip-club owners giving money to council members, as titillating as who mismanaged city departments, or as delightfully confusing as anything that Charlie Chong said, but the trolley is shaping up to be the issue of the race.
This past week candidate Paige Miller, a current Port Commissioner, presented her proposal to save the trolley hours before County Council Member and fellow candidate Dwight Pelz was to give a tour of the maintenance base on the north end of the route. Pelz and incumbent Richard Conlin are working on their own proposals in the suddenly trendy trolley issue.
The three have already talked about the issue on KUOW’s ‘Weekday’ in what sounded more a political debate and candidates on message than a discussion of the situation.
Miller, Pelz, and Conlin, along with candidates Casey Corr and Darlene Madenwald, have been exchanging words over the trolley. Especially after Miller announced her plan, which was shouted down by her opponents as nothing more then political posturing.
It remains to see if this issue will resonate with the voters all summer, but for now this race is the Battle for the Trolley. If you can think of a better name for it please let us know--all we have come up with is the Fistybunt on the Waterfront, and we’re about ninety percent sure that fistybunt isn’t a word.
