Remember Winter?

You may have thought it was safe to stop lugging the Gore Tex jacket everywhere now that it's late March of one of the mildest winters on record, but, as we've found out over the last few days, that kind of mistake can leave you wet and freezing. Seattlest was actually caught out under-dressed this weekend and had to resort to the dreaded emergency sweatshirt purchase. And we got off easy! The hapless travellers who headed for the passes this weekend with those filthy and bothersome chains on the garage floor really sufferred. Not only were they slipping and sliding over the Cascades, but they recieved tongue lashings from tow truck drivers on every local news broadcast imaginable. At least our new hoody is a private shame!

Even though you may have already started pulling the camping gear out of storage it's going to be a little while yet before it sees any use (unless you've really got the good stuff). You might recognize the forecast for the rest of the week from such winters as "2004" and "2003" or "Every Winter Ever In the History of Seattle Except This One".

From Weather Underground's Tuesday forecast:

Rain in the morning...then showers in the afternoon. Chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Breezy. Highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s. South wind 15 to 25 mph except northwest 10 to 15 mph north of Seattle.

Chance of rain Wednesday, rain Thursday, rain showers Friday... Seattlest can't help thinking that some battlle just outside the realm of human perception has finally been won. The criminal matermind, superhero gone bad, alien or whatever has been thwarted. Order has been restored to the Universe. The weather sucks again. While it's easy to shake a fist at the dripping sky, our best chance for escaping the coming summer without being burned to a blackened crisp may be to get as much snow and rain over the next few weeks as possible, so steal a courtesy umbrella, avoid the passes and tough it out.
