Quiznos Store That Wouldn't Die Dies

quiznos.jpgYou put in months of dedicated service working odd hours for paltry compensation. You handle crises with diligence, creativity, and finesse. When the cold cuts run out, you send someone to the store. When the fountain drinks dry up, you put up a note. Management hangs you out to dry and yet you soldier on. Such is the life of Dawna Lentz.

Lentz was in the news last month when the Quiznos Sub Shop she manages was abandoned by its owners and she was forced to improvise in order to continue selling sandwiches and paying wages. The Seattle Times is reporting that the shop has been closed and Lentz and her fellow Home Alone cast members are officially out of jobs.

From the Seattle Times:

Quiznos had a new owner lined up in February, but that deal fell through, spokeswoman Stacie Lange said. The company is negotiating with another prospect, who reportedly wants to hire Lentz when the store reopens.

But Lentz, exhausted and disappointed, isn't sure when the store will reopen, or what she'll do when it does.

When the bright light of the media is shining on Lentz she's being flown to Denver and shaking hands with the Quiznos president. When the local headlines move on, as they inexorably do, she's fired. Seattlest tried to warn you, Dawna.

"If there's any time in my life I feel like crap, it's right now," Lentz said to the Seattle Times. Now's the time to clip a few articles to the resume and start pounding the pavement, girl.

You know Quiznos corporate should hire her and make her district manager.

I love how in Seattle even the local corporate chain sub shop and try to stand on their own when their owners gave up on them.

what a great story this dawn is. i listened to a story about her on This American Life over the weekend and then googled her and was happy to see the story linked on Seattlest.
