Brochure Flap
On Wednesday officials decided to allow the Orca Relief Citizens' Alliance to place brochures in opposition to whale watching boats on those racks tourists use to find the Underground Tour, the Space Needle and, of course, whale watching boats. The tour operators are said to be upset.
"They put out the brochure to cause trouble," said Alan McGillivray, president of the Whale Watch Operators Association North West. He termed the pamphlet "deceptive" and "destructive," but denied that his group had applied any pressure to have the ads banned.
Being irresistibly drawn to any written word deemed "deceptive" and "destructive," Seattlest set out at lunch to procure this fiendish pamphlet only to be foiled by blank stares and shrugged shoulders at the Coleman Dock information kiosk. Apparently, it's not yet available so the closest approximation we can give you at this time is here.
Weldon Vittitow of the Certified Folder Display Service that manages the ferry system's brochure displays said, "It actually is promoting a dangerous situation--people walking on slippery rocks. You couldn't in good conscience recommend people do that. They could fall, and then who will they sue?"
Indeed, Mr. Vittitow, who will they sue...?
Seattlest thinks a lot of orca migraines could be avoided if the tour companies would go out under sail instead of in the Zodiacs they currently use. Of course there is also the kayak option for concerned residents and their guests.
