Thar She Blows
Mt. St. Helens blew steam and ash 30,000 feet into the air at around 5:30 pm yesterday. Ash was reported to be falling 75 miles to the east. Experts say that this eruption doesn't necessarily mean bigger things are coming, with the caveat that the whole thing could go at any time.
The USGS has collected some cool before-during-after photos here. It fills us with the appropriate amount of respect for the volcano to see that the USGS didn't call it. (Read the before and after entries.)
