Okay, let's be frank. The Wu-Tang Clan was the most important group in hip-hop history (sorry, Kriss Kross, but it's true). At one point, having the Wu-Tang ensignia on your CD was a sign of quality. It was like the Chiquita banana sticker of hip-hop. Unfortately, throughout the late ninties a series of bland releases dimninished the brand to the hip-hop equivalent of the AMC Hornet.
The only Wu member who bucked this trend was Ghostface Killah. By focusing on his music and not television (admit it, 'Method & Red' just sucked), he has released some of the sharpest albums in the last few years.
Come check out Ghostface at Neumos tomorrow night to re-live the glory days when Wu-Tang meant quality.
Plus, you can get nerd bonus points for correctly identifying all of the old tv cartoons he samples.
If hip-hop isn't your scene, head over to the Paramount tonight and try to get some scalped tickets for Bright Eyes. Young Conor Oberst is a cute and sensitive songwriter, who has been called 'The Next Dylan.' Admittedly, the phrase "The Next Dylan" has been a little overused to the point that the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls has probably been called "The Next Dylan." Even if Bright Eyes doesn't have 'Highway 61 Revisted' or 'Blonde on Blonde' in his future, you should check him out. If scalpers aren't your scene. Craigslist might be a good place to get tickets to this sold out show.
Head over to the free downloads page on Amazon.com to get a bunch of Bright Eyes.
While you're there, try and buy one of his CD's. Bright Eyes is dating Winona Ryder, so he needs your money. Trust us, her appearance in 'Mr. Deeds' ain't paying her pharmacy bills.

Uh, I think this show is tomorrow. Please check calendar before posting.
Didn't Connor and Winona break up years ago?
(p.s. according to my tickets, the show is tonight -- 17 Feb)
Comically Winona and Bright Eyes are still together. There was a rumor a few years ago that they were dating, but that was just a joke. Then, they actually started dating.
PS The show is tonight.

Wu-Tang more important in hip-hop history than Public Enemy? I don't know...
Or Run DMC, Sugarhill Gang, NWA, Grandmaster Flash/Mellie Mel & the Furious Five?
