North Debuts Play by Iraq War Vet
Another Day in Baghdad, a play written by Iraq War veteran and playwright David A. Tucker II, opens tomorrow night, February 11th, at Stage One theater on the campus of North Seattle Community College. BTW, tickets are $what-you-can-pay.
Seattlest had a sneak peek at the show and was impressed with the use of sound and imagery. Tucker's own pictures are incorporated into the play through fancy use of projection and screens. One of the most sobering moments of the play is an IED incident that recreates the terror using sound in a way we haven't experienced in theater before. The ending scene is also extremely powerfully wrought.
We'll leave the description to the PR pros:
Based on true events and written by a veteran of the Iraq War, Another Day in Baghdad is an ensemble play that explores the day-to-day life of soldiers rarely portrayed in the media, the small moments and the dramatic ones. The play follows the challenges the soldiers face from the day they are mobilized and sent to Iraq to the moment they finally return to the United States, having seen their comrades killed, their world changed, their lives forever affected by the 11 months they spent on the streets of Baghdad. The playwright, Major David A. Tucker II, commanded an Army Reserve unit that was deployed from March 2003 through March 2004. The unit served in Baghdad, Iraq, in support of the 1st Armored Division.
The actors are challenged to portray the varied emotions and complicated individual responses to the stress of war while juggling multiple characters. This is a very thought-provoking and potential paradigm-changing experience that runs through February 27th. Check it out at North Thursdays through Fridays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm.
