Downtown Luncher, Part One

Lunching downtown can be a grim, wallet-emptying experience. Seattlest would like to save you from all that.

Cosi, a national sandwich-shop chain, has brought its signature oven-fired flatbread to Seattle. To Bon-Macy's, or Bon-Marche, or the Bon, or Macy's--whatever you call it.

You'll enjoy nibbling on the famed flatbread while you wait in line--the place is already popular--and the sandwiches are uniformly tasty, as are the salads. The real coup, in Seattlest's opinion, is to grab one of the three tables next to a cutout in the wall, offering a bird's-eye view of the makeup counters downstairs at the Bon. Eat your sandwich, your salad, your s'mores, or, if it's morning, your squagel, all while you ponder the people with extraordinary amounts of free time and questionable hygiene who may literally spend your entire meal applying and reappying makeup. It's truly fascinating.

Why does the bread taste so good? 'Cause it's really, really bad for you. Of course!

Cosi has yet to offer wireless access, but we think the people-watching opportunities trump computer time.

Cosi's are a dime a dozen in D.C. My running joke: telling someone I work across from the Cosi, next to the Starbucks, near the CVS doesn't help much.
